  1. Hi, I’m looking at planning a trip to Rovaniemi and have just come across your blog. I have 3 children and thought about coming the last weekend in November, what is the snow like then? We would love snow as we don’t get it back home so now I’m thinking we should come in February instead but means we’ll miss the Christmas festivities so a bit torn, any advice?

    1. Hey Verity! Sadly, November is never a guarantee for snow (last winter was horrible… winter before was good). It is really hard to say what kind of fall and winter we are in for this year. February definitely should have some but I cannot confidently say November will. I am so sorry. I totally understand that puts a damper on Christmas festivities :(

  2. Hi Megan,
My wife and I are from Charlottesville Virginia just up 64 from Richmond. We are planning a bucket list visit to see the northern lights and had considered November 10-15 this year in Rovaniemi. Your post scare me a bit as it seems like you don’t recommend traveling at that time. When is the best time to travel assuming December would not be an option due to cost?

    1. Hi Ethan!

So cool you’re from Charlottesville! And even cooler you’re coming this way for an aurora trip! So, you can definitely see them in November, it just tends to be a bit more erratic weather-wise. I am going to send you an email with more info.

  3. Hello! Thank you for the great information!! I’m planning a trip in September…can you please give some tips on what to wear for this time of year?

    1. Where abouts are you coming from? I think it will depend on your cold tolerance. For me, I find September quite mild (although evenings can dip down close to freezing) but if you’re coming from somewhere warm, it will be chilly. I would pack a thick jacket (not quite down parka-style but thicker if you’re going northern lights hunting in the evenings), insulated pants or thermals, and then just layer the rest. You don’t need snow boots but be sure to pack one pair of thick wool socks to wear under regular boots. I need to create a packing list on here soon! I just struggle as I live here and my tolerance to cold is so skewed as a result haha! But anyway, layers are key!
