Quite a few months ago, I had the chance to go to Sandane, Norway. Never heard of it?
Well, I hadn’t either before Andre asked me to join him on a work trip up there. It boasts a population of around 2,000 people…which is strangely large compared to some of the places I have visited in Norway, and is situated about 3.5 hours north of Bergen. I wasn’t sure why I was excited to head up to Sandane, but I can say I never turn down the opportunity to explore a new place in this beautiful country.
I thought deep down I would get bored in Sandane. Hell, I get bored in Oslo. But I just knew that the road trip up to Sandane would keep me entertained and talking for days. Little did I know that it would keep me dreaming of the place months later.
If these villages had more than 2,000 people I’d have more to say about them. But they don’t…so I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.

I think the best one for me was similar to yours, from Bergen to Kristiansund. End of July, was fantastic.
I am absolutely dying to take that road trip from Bergen to Kristiansund sometime. I have a feeling that will become my absolute favorite too
Incredible pictures! I especially like the one of the goats crossing the road like they own it. I hope to one day be able to explore Europe and enjoy it as much as you do.
For me, the best drive I have ever taken would be along the Seward Highway in Alaska. Easily one of the top drives in North America. Beauty every where you look.

I sure hope you get to explore Europe in depth one day
But shoot…Alaska is not a bad alternative! I still haven’t been there but can’t wait until the day that I do get up that way!
Beautiful photos! The one with the goats in the road is “so Norway”.. haha. Have several photos like that myself. Found your blog today through the 500$ competition, and I’m so happy I did! I’ll check back often!

Haha I agree…that one is so Norwegian! I have encountered that on several roadtrips while living here and it never ceases to give me a good laugh!
Glad you found my blog…will stop by yours
Love that little cottage with the lawn on the roof. And the greens are so vibrant. Beautiful.

It really is! It makes up for everything being white during the winter
Gorgeous gorgeous! The one with the dock and the mountain in the background… that mountain doesn’t even look real. I’ll note this for my future Scandinavian road trip (after I win the German lotto)

haha these pictures are so deceiving as they are convincing people to travel here and don’t account for the prices here
hahah! but seriously, you should come up this way and we can take a road trip together (after i hit the norwegian lotto of course).
I love this post. I am so excited to get out and do more exploring around Norway. I really enjoy how you capture the colors and interesting scenes.

Beautiful photos! My dream road trip would be pretty much anywhere in Europe but ending up in Switzerland – probably has something to do with all of the Bollywood movies I watched as a kid.
ahhh switzerland. i have loved it for so long. but i really could do without the prices haha
So beautiful! What’s with the grass growing out of the roof! Ha!
you seriously see it all over the place here LOL
Wow, these pictures are amazing! I absolutely LOVE the one with the church.

thanks tiffany! i dont think norway has the potential to allow a bad photograph if she tried
So beautiful! Norway has so many fine treasures. My favorite road trip must be from Stavanger to Røros, there are numerous routes but the nicest is the over the mountains.Iinsanely long, but always worth it.

for some reason, ive had røros on my mind lately. (well, aside from the temperature). im hoping to take a road trip up there from oslo at some point this spring
Gorgeous Megan!!! Your photos leave me falling more and more in love with Norway every day! Thank you!
thanks so much peter! hope you end up making it out this way in 2013!
That’s Norway for you, something gorgeous around every turn (especially in the summer). A lot of Alaska is the same way, something beautiful in every direction, though a bit different of course. My favorite road trip thus far has probably been a solo convertible trip through Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and back home…talk about your change of vistas! Everything from lush greens, to desert, to red rock canyons, and more. No fjords though!
ughhhh i need to get to alaska. that state is hanging over and haunting me. i just want to make sure i do it justice.
i do agree about roadtripping around the US. the landscapes vary so much it is amazing! we are from one beautiful country even though sometimes we forget to consider it
hope iceland treated you well…although i cant imagine it did anything but!
Beautiful photos, looks like it was an awesome road trip :]

thanks liz! it most definitely is stunning here in norway (particularly the west side of the country). we should do a road trip one of these days
That looks like the most peaceful place to spend a few days. And I know that it’s not Switzerland, but I could totally picture Heidi popping out of that church in the first photo

mwhhhaha makes me want to watch that movie actually. i think im gonna make that happen this week.
Whoa that is perfection! Can we go this summer pretty please?!!!
obviously
just get your butt up here first.
Great photos! That’s very my sister lived for a while and where I visited in August.
I loved the place although it was pretty quiet out there. But it was so peaceful and relaxing and the nature is amazing!
We are maybe heading back to Norway (but to south this time) in a month or two…for a short (down hill) skiing holiday!
I hope our plan will come true!

i remember!!! gosh it is so pretty up that way. i miss western norway’s scenery (ok but NOT the weather haha).
so cool you’re heading back!!! do you know which city you’ll be in!?
Oh these are so absolutely gorgeous! I am trying so hard to see all 50 US states before traveling abroad but photos like these make it so hard to stay put!! Norway just inched up quite a bit higher on my list.
Sarabell recently posted..Ye Olde Cupcake
you should def see all 50 states as soon as you can…once you end up abroad it will be hard to put in the same amount of effort in the US. sometimes we dont cherish what we have until we are away from it! i have 5 states left to see all 50 and have no idea if ill do it anytime in the near future!
but when you are able to travel abroad…def dont pass up the chance
thanks for your comment!
That’s exactly why we wanted to see all 50… I think it’ll be so hard to be as interested once we’ve seen “the other side” of things!

I said “wow” about a million times while looking at those pictures!!
i said the same thing when driving it
Wow! The landscape looks unreal! So gorgeous! It’s official – my first visit to Norway is way overdue!!

yes it most certainly is! and im a great tour guide
What a pretty place! Norway is so very beautiful if you go to the right places. In my world, the smaller, the better. I don’t like big cities but prefer little villages out in the country. That’s where you usually see the real spirit of the country as well!
im definitely a lover of the small villages when i travel
living in them is another story! happy weekend!
Hey there!!
I see that you are still living and traveling in Norway. With it’s log cabins and fjords, Norway really has an identity of it’s own.. These pics are really majestic; they make me just want to dive in…
For road trips, one of my favorites was a road trip from Central New York to Toronto. From border control ‘drama’ to the people on the trip to Toronto itself, this trip became unforgettable. For my dream trip, I would love to travel around the US… Hopefully one day!!
hey girl i sure am
i have never done the road trip from central NY to toronto! perhaps ill have to give it a whirl sometime! i always fly up to canada when i go and should endure the customs process at the border one of these days
Beautiful! I need to get out of Stavanger more…and I love houses or buildings with the long grass on top!
