How to Get an Arctic Circle Certificate at Santa Claus Village
Finding the perfect souvenir can be a challenge when you go somewhere that is such a bucket list destination. Aside from the photos you take, finding a personalized way to remember your trip can be tough!
This is why I always recommend first-timers to get an Arctic Circle certificate at Santa Claus Village when they visit. You can choose from a few different certificates at SCV, from an Arctic Circle crossing certificate to a Christmas Cheer certificate.

🚗 Planning to travel around Lapland independently? Find and compare the cheapest Rovaniemi rental car rates here!
And while a lot of things in Lapland can be overpriced for what they are, these range from €4-6 (about $6-8) and are an affordable way to remember your trip for years to come.
In this guide, I detail how to get an Arctic Circle Crossing certificate and I discuss the different types of certificates available to Santa Claus Village visitors.

At the end of the guide, there is also a map that helps you locate the Arctic Circle Tower and the Arctic Circle Tourist Information Center, the two places where you can purchase the certificates discussed in this post. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments.
Please note that I live here in Rovaniemi and I even have a couple of these myself, as they are good ways to mark my first trip here to the Arctic Circle before moving here!
Different Types of Arctic Circle Certificates at Santa Claus Village
There are around 6 different types of Arctic Circle Certificates at Santa Claus Village. Four of these certificates are available in one place, and two are available in another.
The Santa Claus Village Arctic Certificates available are:
- Arctic Circle Tower: 2 different types of Arctic Circle Crossing certificates (one is a golden certificate and the other is a classic one)
- Arctic Circle Tourist Information Center: 4 different types of certificates, including 3 Arctic Circle ones (different designs) and a Christmas Cheer certificate

You can read more below in the sections broken up by the locations.
Arctic Circle Tower Certificates
The Arctic Circle Tower and Safari Center offer two different Arctic Circle Crossing certificates.

It is located right on the Arctic Circle line, but on the second floor of this small building located right next to the main post office.
🎁 Classic Certificate: A black and white certificate that will have your name, indicating the date you crossed the Arctic Circle. This is €5 per person.
🎁 Golden Certificate: This is what I got. It is a colorful version with a gold border and text that states that you have crossed the Arctic Circle. Your name and the date issued will be on it, along with a stamp from the Arctic Circle. This is €6 per person.

If you want to get either of these laminated, it is an extra €2. I did not get mine laminated, but I did purchase a small plastic bag to carry it in. That was €0.20. All certificates are in English.
Arctic Circle Tourist Information Center Certificates
The main Arctic Circle Tourist Information Center also offers 4 different certificates. They have three different Arctic Circle ones and a Christmas Cheer one.
You will find these on the first floor (across from the mini market) in the main Tourist Information building at SCV. If you get lost, look for the same building that has Loft Cafe (one of my favorite spots for coffee in Rovaniemi).

🎁 Arctic Circle Certificate: There are three different Arctic Circle Certificates available (with different designs). I went for the two most expensive ones (€6 and €5 each) and they come in a variety of languages. The third one was only €4 and was the cheapest option but didn’t seem to fit my ‘collection’ as well as others (meaning I preferred the colors of the others), so I didn’t get that one.
🎁 Christmas Cheer certificate: This is a €6 certificate that is more about Christmas than crossing the Arctic Circle.

If you want to get a plastic protector for your certificate, you can purchase it for €1. I got one for mine.
Good to Know
The certificates at this place come in different languages! The languages these certificates come in are English, Finnish, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Swedish, Greek, and Polish.
The Arctic Circle Tourist Information Center hours vary with the season. If you’re coming in high season, expect it to be open from 8am until around 8pm. It will be open a little shorter in January onward. I went at 12pm on a Saturday in October for mine.
What to Know Before Getting an SCV Arctic Circle Certificate
Here are a few things to know before getting your Arctic Circle Certificate in Rovaniemi:
- You can pay with a card in both places.
- If it is snowing or raining, make sure you get a plastic covering or lamination. Alternatively, you can purchase a bag for a small upcharge to carry it in!
- They DO NOT stamp passports. This is actually illegal and invalidates your passport for travel. Not a good idea… I promise!
- Expect lines during the high season. Try to go first thing when the place opens or at the end of the day.
- Have your name written out in your phone for the Arctic Circle Tower and be prepared to write your name (or the name of the certificate recipient) on a piece of paper at the Tourist Information Center.
