Best Hotels in Bergen, Norway (at a Glance)
If you don’t have time to read this guide, here is a quick overview of the best hotels in Bergen and which one I think is best for you!
Which Bergen hotel is right for you?
💕 Best hotel in Bergen for couples: Bergen Børs (near the harbor in a historic building)
🚸 Best hotel in Bergen for families (and kids): Hotel Norge by Scandic (many food options) or Radisson Blu (always a kid-friendly choice)
🎨 Best boutique hotel in Bergen: Charmante – Skostredet Hôtel
💰 Best budget hotel in Bergen: Citybox Bergen City
🛌 Unique options in Bergen: Bergen Børs (a historic building by the harbor) or Det Hanseatiske Hotel (located at Bryggen)
I don’t tend to have bad experiences traveling all that often (thanks to good research!), but I would say one place I would avoid staying at in Bergen is the Magic Hotel.
While the staff was super friendly and the location was ideal, it was extremely noisy, and I even had to move rooms during my stay. Everything about the place was pretty mediocre, looking back on it. I would stay elsewhere.
Where to Stay in Bergen, Norway
1. Bergen Børs
This luxurious 5-star hotel is set in central Bergen and is a great option for your trip. Located in an old stock exchange building from the 1860s, Bergen Børs is known for its striking architecture, fantastic location, and excellent amenities.
When it comes to facilities, the on-site bar is a highlight, as you can enjoy a selection of cocktails and local beers.
There are also two restaurants: Frescohallen and Bare Vin & Matbar. One focuses on more traditional dishes, while the other offers a Japanese twist.

There are a variety of rooms to choose from at Bergen Børs, many of which are well-suited to couples. However, some suites do sleep 3 to 4 people (and even offer scenic harbor views).
Not only are the rooms cozy, but they also feature plenty of amenities. This includes underfloor heating (one of my favorite things about Norway), a coffee machine, and a private bathroom (some even have a bathtub).
A delicious breakfast is also included in your stay!
2. Det Hanseatiske Hotel
There are plenty of superb hotels in Bergen, and Det Hanseatiske Hotel is up there with the best. Set in a 16th-century building, this hotel is located in the popular Bryggen district, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Popular attractions such as the Hanseatic Museum, Fløibanen funicular, and Bryggens Museum are all nearby, thanks to its great location.
The highlight of staying at Det Hanseatiske Hotel has to be its feature rooms, decorated in a rustic style and boasting old timber walls. There are several types of rooms to choose from, but the suite is the most beautiful (yet, the most expensive).

Like the previous hotel, a breakfast buffet is included with your stay. This buffet offers tasty foods such as fresh bread and smoked salmon.
Speaking of food, there are three dining options on-site (one of which is the only Tex-Mex restaurant in Bergen).
3. Radisson Blu Royal Hotel
Another popular place to stay is the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, one of the best hotels in the city and one that is located in the heart of Bergen. It’s nestled right next to the popular Bryggen district.
This hotel is in a great location, especially as Torgallmenningen Square, the Fish Market, and the Fløibanen funicular are just a short walk away.
There are plenty of rooms and suites to choose from at Radisson Blu, and some even feature city views. The rooms sleep 2-4 people and come with plenty of amenities, including free WiFi, a flat-screen TV, and a private bathroom.

26 North Restaurant & Social Club is located on-site and is known for its fantastic dining experience. It offers traditional Norwegian dishes; later in the evening, you can enjoy late-night dancing here.
Guests can also enjoy free access to the on-site fitness center and sauna. Another bonus of staying at Radisson Blu is that the airport shuttle bus stops outside the hotel.
4. Charmante – Skostredet Hôtel
Charmante – Skostredet Hôtel is a gorgeous (and newer!) boutique hotel in Bergen. Although you’ll be staying in a great area of the city, the highlight of this hotel has to be its amazing rooms with a unique and modern design.
The comfortable rooms in this design hotel are all decorated beautifully, with stunning wallpaper, luxurious furnishings, and a marble bathroom.
Not only is the decor jaw-dropping, but you’ll have lots of amenities too, including free WiFi and a wardrobe. The rooms even have a minibar that offers a selection of wines.

There are several options to choose from, with studios offering the most space. Although expensive, they are a great option for those after a more luxurious stay, especially as they feature a claw-foot bathtub.
If you decide to stay at Charmante – Skostredet Hôtel, then your breakfast will also be included. Not to mention, there’s a fantastic French brasserie located on-site. The dishes here are made using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients.
5. Opus 16
Opus 16 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hotels in Bergen. It’s housed in a striking building that dates back to 1876 and has so much to offer guests.
First of all, there are a variety of rooms and suites available, some sleeping up to four people. Spacious and beautifully decorated, the rooms at this 5-star hotel are cozy, for sure, especially as the bathrooms feature underfloor heating and a walk-in rainfall shower.

Opus 16 also has some fantastic facilities, including an in-house exhibition, fitness center, and bar. There’s a restaurant too, where you can enjoy traditional dishes made with only the finest ingredients.
This restaurant also offers afternoon tea, a British tradition that has been around since the 1840s. While staying here, you’ll have a Norwegian-style breakfast buffet included in your rate too.
6. Scandic Ørnen
Scandic Ørnen is located right next to Bergen train station, so it offers convenience for those arriving overland to the city. You’ll also be within walking distance of Torgallmenningen Square and Bryggen Wharf.
A highlight of staying at Scandic Ørnen has to be its Roast Restaurant and Bar, which is located on the 12th floor. Not only does this place offer delicious homemade meals and an extensive drinks list, but you’ll be treated to stunning views of the city and surrounding mountains from here.

Another bonus of this hotel is that bicycles can be borrowed for free if you’re looking to explore Bergen this way. There’s even a fitness center where you can book time with a personal trainer!
The rooms at Scandic Ørnen sleep between 1-4 people, and some offer striking city views. The Presidential Suite is the most luxurious option and can sleep up to three people.
7. Hotel Norge by Scandic
As one of the best hotels in Bergen, you need to check out Hotel Norge by Scandic. This place has been around since 1885 and is now one of the city’s most prominent hotels, and it’s not hard to see why! It is also in a central location, close to the harbor and cruise terminal.
Boasting two eateries, a bar, a fitness center, and an outdoor terrace area, the facilities at this hotel will blow you away. Hotel Norge by Scandic is also home to an on-site spa, where you can enjoy a swimming pool and sauna.

The stylish rooms at this hotel are something to shout about too! There are over 400 rooms in total, many of which offer floor-to-ceiling glass windows, so you can enjoy the city and mountain views. Some even feature a private balcony.
For the ultimate experience, check out the Hotel Norge Suite. It has its own terrace area, which offers a sauna and jacuzzi, so you can relax while enjoying the views!
8. Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz
The Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz is located in central Bergen, just a short walk from Bryggen Wharf. Bergen Train Station, the Fløibanen funicular, and Torgallmenningen Square are also within walking distance (as are other major attractions).
The rooms at Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz Bergen are spacious and cozy, ranging from a standard single room to a junior suite. These great rooms are equipped with everything you need, as well as a Bose music system, a smart TV, and a minibar.

With your stay, a tasty breakfast buffet is included too. You’ll also get a free evening meal from Monday to Thursday. This is perfect for those who don’t want to spend too much money dining out.
Not to mention, guests can enjoy complimentary beverages from the hotel’s Nespresso coffee maker. Other facilities at the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz include a fitness center, bar, coffee room, and meeting rooms. Laundry facilities are also available.
As you can see, this awesome hotel has so much to offer and is an excellent choice for those visiting Bergen.
9. Citybox Bergen City (Best Budget Hotel in Bergen)
Accommodation in Bergen (and Norway in general) is known to be expensive. Luckily, you’ll find the Citybox Hotel here, which is the perfect option for budget travelers.
Although the rooms are small, they are very affordable by Bergen standards. They sleep between 1-4 people and are suitable for single travelers, couples, and small families. Each one also offers an en-suite bathroom and free WiFi.

If you decide to stay here, you’ll benefit from self-service check-in, a shared guest kitchen, and a TV lounge where you can relax. There are also vending machines on-site where you can purchase drinks and snacks.
Like many other hotels in Bergen, Citybox is also pet-friendly! I have not had a chance to stay at Citybox Bergen just yet, but I have stayed at one in Tromsø and Oslo, so I feel confident that the experience will be similar to the favorable one I had in both cities.
