  1. Love your attitude! No reason to write off a place before you give it a chance.

I lived in Hungary for a couple of years, and Gyor is definitely a favorite for me. (Especially at Christmas time).
I was just there in March!

Did you check out the Mandala Tea House? It’s a must. Also.. I didn’t see a picture of the naked man in a boat statue! haha :) It’s a popular meeting spot for the locals there.

I have a friend that works in the tourinform office. They’re always super helpful, and have a really cool 2-floor space with interactive exhibits. http://tourinform.hu/english

Definitely go back! It never ever gets old.

  2. We loved Gyor!! So charming , darling at Christmas . Very friendly people as well. Definetly plan on going back one day . Glad you wrote about it .

    1. I was amazed at how beautiful this city was! I’m so glad someone else has had the chance to go there as well! I hope they get the tourism they deserve!

  3. There is also a huge Audi presence in Gyor.. and they sponsor the handball stadium (near the factory). What a crazy, intense sport.
We lived in Bratislava for two years and loved it, then moved to Budapest for two years – and loved that too. Nice to see someone shine a well deserved spotlight on this part of the world….

    1. haha i had no idea! i guess i didnt get to spend enough time there to notice ;) but im definitely heading back there one of these days without a doubt!

  4. I know Gyor only from the signs I saw on the highway when I travelled to Germany. And now it’s strange and interresting to see photos from there. I had the same trip a few days ago. I visited a town called Dimitrovgrad. It is named after the bulgarian comminist George Dimitrov and I expected to see a lot of communist buildings, different from the other bulgarian towns. But I found only a dead boring town. I see that Gyor is more vivid and colorful.

    1. gyor was definitely colorful and full of life when i was there- and it was the middle of winter! im sorry to hear that dimitrovgrad wasn’t so charming! thanks for your comment and happy traveling!
