  1. Hi Megan, I appreciate your wonderful blog post. In late March of next year, my husband, my 13-year old daughter and I will be spending around 8 days in Rovaniemi. I’ve also booked a night in an Igloo at the Arctic Snowhotel. Could you suggest other accommodations where we can experience the northern lights, preferably away from the city lights? Also, do you have any tips on where to rent thermal suits for severe cold weather? Thank you in advance!

    1. Hi Mercy!

You should have decent luck at Arctic Snowhotel (if the skies are clear). There is a lake there that has less light pollution than the holiday village that you can walk over to! I think the best places to stay for northern lights are Apukka Resort and/or Silver Birch… but both are outside of Rovaniemi. So if you have a car, it’s easy… otherwise I would opt for Apukka as they run a shuttle! I just stayed at Apukka two weeks ago again and it is still a great spot!

As for renting clothing – I have an article coming soon for that! But WinterRent and Rovaniemi Insider are the best bets (WinterRent is likely what I will be suggesting as top when I finish writing the piece because I took visitors there last year to get stuff and they hade a good experience). I haven’t tested Rovaniemi Insider myself, but I know they are a fanatastic company. Have an amazing trip!

  2. hi megan! thank you for this amazing post :) may i ask which you would accommodation would you recommend if i’ll be bringing my dog and am hoping for a large enough space for her to run? we won’t be driving! we’re also thinking of participating in winter activities that are dog friendly!

    1. Hi Fel! Thanks for your message and I feel bad you’re not going to love my response but I honestly do not know the answer to any of your questions :( I don’t even have an inkling of which glass igloos or hotels would be pet-friendly around Lapland. I would perhaps look into cabins or camping cabins as they tend to be but I don’t have the names of any specifically.
