Ruska is the Finnish word for fall colors and foliage. There are a lot of birch trees across Lapland, and they will explode into shades of yellow, red, and orange during peak autumn.

Yes, the northern lights are extremely active in autumn (especially around the equinox), but autumn does tend to bring a lot of clouds to Lapland. Be sure to plan a trip long enough to see some clear skies... or book a northern lights tour with a company that can drive you around to where the clear skies are.
