  1. Great read! I’m planning a two week trip to Norway. Oslo, I suppose. The land is so beautiful and I can’t wait to be there! Do you recommend a certain hotel in a good location for night life? I don’t like to get wild, but I enjoy small locals hang outs.

    1. Dear reader; I Agree! The article is quite accurate! Beeing a Norwegian, I’d like to clearafy why we drink, why we are hard to get through initially, why for some reason we mature early (which is not quite true),

The drinking. My personal theory is quite simple, ever since the government started to claim tax for the consume of alcohol in Norway people has gone nuts over it. In 2012 the alcohol tax was a whooping 12.14 billion NOK. If you look at other low alcohol tax country’s which sell jack daniels in seven elleven such as Denmark, our nabour. Alcohol in Norway has become just as excting as sex, given the fact that you can’t get it whenever you want, can’t have it wherever you want and you can’t get it unless you work hard for it.

Hard to get through. Norwegians are not shy, they are reserved. To get through to a Norwegian, you’ll need to considder breaking the ice despite beeing the visitor. We are all the same as you guys ;) If they still won’t talk; They feel they have innsuficient language skills, so spend a little bit more time talking

Why for some reson we mature early. Well we don’t. It’s simply the because it takes time to get to know a Norwegian :)

    2. I agree with you :) And that tax thing regarding alcohol must explain Iceland’s crazy drinking habits too :)

  2. Hei hei !
I found you post very interesting :-) thank you !

One thing I would want to change about norwegian is how we often just don’t care about being a close family and taking care of our elders. And another thing: Norway is small but long and few people. The culture change is big from south to north and west to east. Like 6 different types of folks hers lol :-)

    1. haha this made me miss norway! and to be honest, i think that norwegians take better care of their extended family than americans. doesn’t mean it is great, just means us americans have some work to do!

  3. i’ve been in Norway several times hiking and now, i’ve worked here for a couple of months (temporary seasonal work – a twist of luck, but unfortunatelly going back to Portugal, that impovrished, too-hot, jobless, dry southern country where you cannot get a job, you have to live with parents till your 40 cause you CAN’T afford to rent a place, where is difficult to go to nature, and forbidden to camp on wilderness). Norway has everything i love and that everything is an amazing nature, breathtaking perfect landscapes EVERYWHERE, freedom to roam the outdoors, an impressive system of cabins super motivational to enjoy nature, a great weather (for my taste), snow, and obviously a good and healthy labour market. Jobs with dignity and beauty everywhere, on architecture, traditions, nature. And of course very nice, kind and lovable people.
Well, the problem of Norway is that is too small (comparing to many other countries in the world) it should be bigger but it isnt. This means it cannot receive everybody to live. Thousands of people want to go there BUT is not possible. I suffer with the fact i was not born norwegian. It would be the perfect nationality for a mountain-passionate like me, someone who cannot live without the beauty of nature. I even felt often embarassed with my ugliness (i am so awful) and my nationality when around meeting people on Norway. It was just embarassing and i dont even want to date, no, no. It is just that i feel like, i am inferior to them. And they dont need me actually, there are thousands of people more useful and important to their economy than me, a insignificant, poor, hopeless dreamer portuguese ugly girl. My dreams are nothing in Portugal, there is only emptiness in my country. I dont believe in hope and bright future. It was beautiful to live in Norway, but now it is over. Life is sad.

  4. very good writen
