  1. Great overview of Vardø! Just curious, how reliable is the info about local dining options during the off-season? Planning a visit soon but unsure what stays open outside summer.

    1. Hi Solveig! The info should pretty reliable! I have been there in multiple seasons (including the end of August and in April which are both considered off-season). The only thing that I think may be closed seasonally is Strandtorget’s cafe. But it was open when I was there in April but they had just added a terrace so I am not sure if that changes. But Varangerkøkken, Nordpol Kro, ABC Thai, and the few other places in town are open year-round :) The tourism info center has limited hours or is closed in the off-season for a bit, on the other hand (they have a small cafe inside during the summer).

  2. Great post about Vardø! Quick question – is there public transportation available to get around the town or do you recommend renting a car? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Erik! So you can walk everywhere in town with no issue at all (it is quite small). If you or someone in your group has mobility issues, there may be a taxi service available, but I am not sure of anything off hand. I didn’t see city buses but there is the Snelandia service which stops at the harbor, school, town hall, and perhaps another place or two. You can find info at Snelandia.no for it. Snelandia buses go all throughout the peninsula and to Kirkenes (so that is why there are such few stops in Vardø).

Honestly, if you’re going there in summer, I highly suggest renting a car if you want to explore the areas surrounding (and feel comfortable on narrower roads). The ‘highway’ there is pretty easy to drive but if you go to Hamningberg, for example, the road isn’t as easy :) I hope this helps!
