5 Tasty Restaurants in Levi, Finland (Off-the-Slopes Options)

Levi, Finland is one of the most famous ski resorts in Finland and while most people head up that way for an on-the-slopes adventure, there is plenty to do when your ski day wraps up. And, one of my favorite things to do is eat!

There are several delicious restaurants in Levi and this guide is in no way complete because I have a few more spots to check out (I list them at the end of this guide).

Since Levi is only a two-hour drive from where I live, consider this a live guide and I will continue adding to it each time I go back if I discover additional places I love.

I will preface this guide by saying that I am leaving restaurants that are located on the slopes off of this guide. Honestly, they do their job, but they are rarely anything to write home about. You can certainly find better food in Levi than at these spots.

Delicious Restaurants in Levi

1. NiliPoro

📍 Location: Torikuja 4
☎️ Reservations: Only accepted for groups of 6 or more

This is hands down, one of my favorite restaurants in Finland. NiliPoro is situated in the center of Levi and it is almost always teeming with hungry customers (including a lot of Finns).

They do not take reservations for groups under 6, so you will likely have a short wait before getting seated. But, it is worth it and the best spot for traditional food in Levi!

NiliPoro specializes in ‘poro’… or reindeer! It is Sami-owned and the menu is almost entirely made up of reindeer dishes. When I dined there, the menu had one vegetarian option and one fish option on it. The rest of it was reindeer.

We ordered a reindeer tapas as well as two different reindeer main courses. I got the reindeer steak of the day and my partner got the slow braised reindeer shank. Both were stellar and the portions were huge and affordably priced (for Finland).

You can also purchase items to take home like reindeer sausages, dehydrated meats, etc. I can’t say enough great things about this place. It is a smaller restaurant, so I suggest going in with minimal clothing after you freshen up from your ski day.

NiliPoro is open on Mondays from 3pm until 10pm and Tuesday to Saturday from 12pm until 10pm. They are closed on Sundays.

2. Kekäle

📍 Location: Levintie 1590

Located in the Levi Hotel Spa, Kekale is a casual fine-dining restaurant that is a wonderful place to head in the evening when you’re looking for a delicious meal and some wine.

Head Chef Tuomo Kallo offers a diverse menu where several dishes are cooked over an open charcoal grill in the kitchen (it is an open kitchen).

I ordered a reindeer sirloin that was cooked to perfection. It came with parsnips, mushrooms, lingonberries, and a flavorful bone marrow sauce. While the price was a bit steeper than NiliPoro, it was so tasty that I didn’t care.

I would recommend ordering a starter or two to share as the main courses are not huge. I was plenty filled up, but I also snacked before going to the restaurant.

Kekale is open daily from 6pm until 10pm during the high season and has limited hours from March 31 to May 10 and the summer. They are closed from May 12 until June 19. Reservations are advised!

3. Lost Tacos

☎️ Reservations: Not required (but you can make one)

I remember stumbling upon this place on my first trip to Levi two years ago and being shocked that there was a taco spot in Levi. I am always a bit hesitant with eating Mexican food on this side of the Atlantic but this place was pretty delicious!

Lost Tacos uses 100% blue corn tortillas and some of their menu items have a Lappish twist to them – like their sea buckthorn and jalapeno vinaigrette or their rainbow trout ceviche.

While I love the flavors of this place, it can be a bit pricy on the taco side of things. I got three tacos on my first trip and this last time I opted for the burrito bowl. There are plenty of sides and vegetarian options available.

Lost Tacos Levi is open daily from 2pm until 11pm (but the kitchen closes at 10pm).

4. Pizza de Levi

I was excited to find Neapolitan-style pizza when I was visiting Levi, so we made sure to stop in on our last day as it was a Sunday and Pizza de Levi opened earlier than other restaurants in town.

They have a wood-fired pizza oven in their open kitchen and the restaurant is fairly spacious but it also seems to always be full!

On the menu, you’ll find an array of pizzas from a classic margherita to a diavolo. And, of course, what would a menu be without a Lapland-inspired option?! They have a Lapland pizza with minced reindeer, lingonberries, etc.

Pizza de Levi is a good spot to hit up if you’re looking for something that caters to most palates and something located in the heart of the city. They are open daily from 12pm until 10pm.

5. Salteriet Levi

📍 Location: Torikuja 5
☎️ Reservations: No

Renowned for its schnitzels, Salteriet Levi is a fantastic option for those staying in the city who want tasty food in an inviting atmosphere.

The reason I love this spot is because its roots are on the Åland Islands and it brings me back to my quick trip there in 2018. The founders of Salteriet focus on bringing the archipelago’s atmosphere and flavors to the heart of Levi with their creative menu.

Their menu is an array of different types of schnitzels and burgers, including a breaded perch fillet burger or a sausage schnitzel with a smoked reindeer cheese filling. Vegetarian options are available.

Salteriet Levi is open daily from 2pm until 10pm (but the kitchen closes at 9:30pm).

While I haven’t had a chance to visit everywhere yet, it is mostly because of opening hours! Here are some other spots that are next on my list and that get good reviews. I will hopefully be adding them to the list once I have a chance to check them out personally!

Please note that this guide includes places that are within walking distance of the city center. I did not include anywhere requiring a car to get to or at a resort outside Levi’s center.
