  1. Hi Megan Starr,

Thank you for the photos and the very useful information.

I would like to ask if driving round-trip between Rovaniemi and Ruka in early March (March 6–7, 2027) is difficult, given that I have no prior experience driving in winter conditions.

    1. Hi Nus! It is super hard to say, tbh. If we have an early spring, the roads may be icy. I wouldn’t chance it to be completely honest. I would do a tour or factor in a few days in Ruka. I found the road to Myllykoski to be a bit crappy and I live here.

  2. Hi Amazing detailed article ! Could you pls tell me if we could do it as a day trip from Rovaniemi in March this year. My husband and my 7 year old kid will be there march 14- 17 . Are the winter conditions bad in march too. Cos we aren’t experienced winter drivers! We are gonna stay in Ruka. Since we already booked our stay in Rovaniemi.

    1. Hi Narmatha!

I am confused – you said you will stay in Ruka as well as Rovaniemi above? I hate to be the buzzkill – but definitely 100% would NOT recommend driving here at all with no experience, especially in March (still a lot of snow and if it starts melting it gets icy). Myllykoski will be a challenging day trip from Rovaniemi, sadly. But if you guys are staying in Ruka, you can take a tour out there with snowshoes! The road to the rapids sucks for those that are not experienced though – mostly just narrow with a lot of blind spots. Sorry I know this may not have been the info you were looking for :(
