How to Seamlessly Get from Bishkek Airport to the City (2026)
Every time I land in Central Asia, I breathe a sigh of relief for taxi apps. I will never forget my first trip to Bishkek and having to negotiate a price right outside the terminal to get to my accommodation. Thank goodness I am bad at currency conversion.
Anyway, getting from Bishkek Airport to the city center has never been easier and with taxi apps, it means you won’t have to pay absurd amounts for the airport transfer into the city!

✈️ Looking for an airport transfer to start your trip off with ease? You can check Bishkek airport transfer rates and availability here.
In this guide, I break down three ways to get from Bishkek’s Manas Airport to the city center. I will share info about using a public bus (cheapest), taking a taxi (the most practical), and booking a private Bishkek airport transfer (the easiest). I am not including the marshtrutkas in here because I know nothing about them.

Before diving into things, I will state that I always just take a taxi straight to my hotel. I will list this option first since it is the one I repeatedly use and feel most comfortable with.
Current Construction at the Manas Airport (BSZ)
As of May 2026, there is a ton of construction at Manas Airport (now BSZ but formerly FRU). The entire facade is in scaffolding and closed off. About dang time (no really). This airport is so overdue for a facelift.

Anyway, because of this, the front of the airport is blocked off and you will need to catch the bus or a taxi to the right when you walk out. Just follow the crowds that way. It is a short walk (around 5-7 minutes), but there are cars passing, so keep to the shoulder of the road.
I have read that the construction is expected to be done in the first half of 2026. We will see about that…
Getting a SIM Card at the Bishkek Airport
Before I get into the details, I recommend you get your SIM card at the Bishkek Airport before you even leave the luggage carousel area. There will be a few companies there (I tend to use Beeline) and you can get all set up for your trip here.

Beeline has a few different packages for foreigners. I tend to always just buy the one with the most data (i.e., the most expensive one) because I sometimes use it as a hotspot. This was 1500 KGS (about $17). It was overpriced, but I was tired and didn’t care.

There is a package that is half that price that gives you 100 GB instead of the ridiculous 250 GB I purchased. Just have your passport handy. You can pay with a card.
I would forego eSIM companies that influencers try to sell for Kyrgyzstan. They are around 3x the price and the service offered is poorer outside Bishkek. Beeline and other providers work well, will speak English (at the airport), and the process takes 5 minutes upon arrival, while your bags get from the plane to the luggage carousel.
How to Get from Bishkek Airport to the City (Details)
1. Taking a Yandex Taxi
Yes, Yandex is a Russian app, but it is the default one to use out here. You can download this even before your trip, and I highly advise that you do so, as taxis are a convenient way to get around the sprawling city. I had no issues downloading from Europe in the iOS app store. Be sure to put in your credit card info if you don’t want to grab out cash right away.

If you prefer to pay for your taxi in cash, you can take out Kyrgyz Soms (KGS) once you enter the arrivals hall. Honestly, this is annoying as you will be shaking off the persistent taxi drivers at the same time.

Only one of these machines worked with my American credit card, so just test your luck until you get cash out.
Good to Know
No one ever has change for large bills in Bishkek. I would advise you to take out a weird number from the ATM if it allows you to break up the sum a bit and give you some smaller bills. If you are unable to do this, you can usually break them up at a grocery store.
Yandex taxis are available 24/7. So if your flight arrives at 3am, don’t stress. This is typical for airports in Central Asia. There will be plenty of taxis available on the app; you just may need to wait 10 minutes or so because of the bottlenecked traffic at the airport’s entrance.

To get your taxi, you will need to go to the right once you get outside. Just keep following the people toward a pick-up area. There will be a few security guards standing there and if you see that, you’re in the right area.
If a taxi driver follows you part of the way, trying to get you to his car, just ignore and continue walking (this happened to me). They will give up at some point.
Yandex will show you a license plate number and that will be your vehicle. It will be a mess waiting for it, but just follow the GPS on the app until it pulls up.

Welcome to Kyrgyzstan! Your driver will most likely talk on the phone or text while driving you to your hotel. It’s annoyingly common.
The price will depend on your location and the time of day. I paid 1027 KGS ($12) during the daytime and 694 KGS ($8) in the middle of the night. The ride is about 30 minutes long without traffic (and longer with).
2. Taking the Public Bus
I am giving a heads up now… I have never done this. It is by far the cheapest option, but I am claustrophobic and there will be a fair number of people taking it. Nope.

Bus 153 connects Bishkek Airport to the city center. It runs every 15 minutes and can be located a bit to the right of the airport (this may change when renovations are completed). The price is around 140-150 KGS (about $1.60-1.70) per person and you can pay with cash or card when you get on the bus. You can see the route here.
3. Booking a Private Transfer
While I have never booked this option, I am tempted to test it out in the near future because I hate hunting down Yandex taxis (I have such bad eyesight). It is also way cooler to arrive and have a sign with your name on it.
These private transfers take up to 3 people for only $20. You can book more for a higher price. The vehicle will be clean and have air-conditioning.
