How to Easily Get from the Tashkent Airport to the City (2026)
In this guide, I will explain how to get from the Tashkent Airport to the city center in Uzbekistan. I will share two options: taking a taxi and booking a Tashkent airport transfer.
If you are visiting Uzbekistan to see some of the famous Silk Road sites in Samarkand, Khiva, or Bukhara, there is a good chance that Tashkent will be your first point of entry into the country.

And if you are not coming overland, there is a fairly good chance you will arrive at the Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport (TAS). It is the second busiest airport in Central Asia and a good hub for exploring the region.
While arriving at Tashkent International Airport has become a fairly simple procedure (thanks to the removal of visas for many countries in early 2026… mine included!), there are a few things you should know before you arrive.

In this guide, I will detail how to get from the Tashkent Airport to the city center, including two different options. AND… I will give a few tips to make the journey smooth (because mine left ‘room for improvement’ and I don’t want you to make the same mistakes. How to Get from Tashkent Airport to the City
There are two options I will be covering here for how to get from the Tashkent Airport to the city center: taking a taxi and booking a Tashkent Airport transfer. You can take the public bus; however, I only can recommend taking a taxi or booking a Tashkent Airport transfer, as I think taking a bus upon arrival is a bit of a daunting task (and taxis are incredibly affordable here).
These are the two options I am recommending, with the price:
- Taking a Yandex Go taxi: around 44,000 UZS (about $3.50; will vary depending on destination); must pay with Uzbek Soms cash
- Booking a Tashkent airport transfer: around $25; must pre-book and prepay
Option 1: Taking a Taxi (My Recommendation)
This is what I did and what I recommend to others. It is extremely affordable, but it does not come without a few forewarnings.
If you are planning to do this, you will need to have a SIM card. You can purchase this at the baggage claim with Beeline or Ucell. I got Ucell (only because it had no one waiting, and I am not going anywhere that remote where I need to be cautious with coverage). I paid 60,000 UZS (about $5) for their cheapest package, which came with like 60GB or something astronomical.

Wait to ensure that it is activated and working before you grab your luggage and proceed to the arrivals hall!
You will need to download the app ‘Yandex Go’. This is a Russian app, but it is the standard one that is used in the region, so be sure to register and have it ready to go. You can do this before you even come to Uzbekistan (I had no issues downloading this in Finland). Do not take a taxi any other way.

This next step is important: you need cash. I always get cash from ATMs and never do an exchange. But the ATM was not working in the arrivals hall when I arrived. So, I had to walk 200m or so over to the departures hall, which was through a parking lot and some barricades. I had to then go through a small security check to enter the airport and I found an ATM working there. It only gave me around $40, but that was more than enough.
Once you have some cash, you can order a taxi with Yandex Go. On the app, you can type in your hotel or destination, and it will respond with a driver and a license plate number. I usually remember the last few numbers and the two letters and look for it.

Be warned, nearly every car in Uzbekistan is a white Chevrolet (there is a reason for this that dates back to the 90s). But it can make looking out for your car a little bit of a pain, so be sure to be alert!
Once you have a car, you’re good to go! I have never had any issues with Yandex in Uzbekistan anywhere, but one thing to know is that drivers are pretty chaotic and assertive here. Seatbelts may also not work. And always make sure you’re in the car if your luggage is in there (an old habit)… make sure the driver has exited the car before you do to head to the trunk.

Just give the driver your cash and you’re good to go. Try to use small bills if you have them. I paid 44,000 UZS (about $3.50) from the airport to my city center hotel.
Option 2: Booking a Tashkent Airport Transfer (Easiest Option)
If taking a taxi directly upon landing sounds like a daunting task, no shame at all. I totally get it, especially if your flight is arriving from a place further than mine was!
Another option you have is to take a Tashkent airport transfer to your hotel. You can prebook this, so all the hassle with getting cash out and downloading an app is removed!

This Tashkent airport transfer is offered via GetYourGuide, a site I use wherever I travel in the world and you will have a driver waiting for you at the arrivals hall with ease. They will wait for up to three hours and have an air-conditioned vehicle ready to take you to your hotel, the train station, or wherever you need to go within Tashkent city limits (a 20km radius).
Be sure to download WhatsApp on your phone if you don’t already have it, as this will be the best way to communicate and confirm arrival information.
This price may shift with the season, but it is currently $25 (USD) for a one-way transfer from the airport… which is a pretty good deal, especially since that can cover up to a group of 3 people.
