Question 1

What is a glass igloo?

Accepted Answer

A glass igloo is a popular form of accommodation in Finland (and other Nordic countries) that has a glass roof that allows for better northern lights viewing and a unique overnight experience.

Question 2

Where can you stay in a glass igloo in Finland?

Accepted Answer

Nowadays, you can stay at a glass igloo almost anywhere across Finland, especially in the north in Lapland, where it is most popular because of northern lights opportunities.

Question 3

How much does it cost to stay in a glass igloo?

Accepted Answer

During the high season (winter), it can range from €400 to well over €1000. If you go off-season, you can find them as cheap as €200. Many glass igloos resorts close during the summer months.

Question 4

Can you actually see the northern lights from a glass igloo?

Accepted Answer

Yes! If the aurora is super strong, you can see it inside your igloo with the lights shut off and a long exposure on a camera (and even sometimes with the naked eye). Glass igloos have exaggerated the experience somewhat and it is difficult to lie in bed and watch it on any given night.

Question 5

Do glass igloos get cold at night?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes, yes. But they are all heated (and have heated roofs), so if the temperature is hard to control, just speak with the hotel's reception, and they will sort it out for you.
