United 93 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania

Eleven years ago, no one had heard of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, with the exception of the 245 people that call this tiny borough in the western part of the state their home.  No one expected that the small and unknown area would become home to the United 93 Memorial resulting from the horrific terrorists attacks on September 11, 2001.

Today, most Americans, and people from all over the world, are well aware of the traumatic events that transpired 1.75 miles from this rural area of the US.  The date of September 11 has new meaning for Americans.  It is no longer a day that just symbolizes autumn beginnings and the start of football season.  It has much more meaning, particularly to those who lost family members and friends not only in Shanksville, but Washington D.C. and New York City.  While you’re going about your daily doings today, please send thoughts to those people and the heroes they lost.

If you are in the area, you should certainly stop by and pay your respects to the brave heroes aboard this infamous flight that went down in western Pennsylvania.

thanks for posting this. i didn’t even know until i saw on the news today that United 93 had a memorial at the crash site. and i think a lot of people tend to only remember the WWC and not the other places like the pentagon or united 93.

we pray for those who’s died and those who lost their loved ones. they’ll never be forgotten

Wow, always tough to see the faces to go with the names. Very cool you got to visited the site

thank you for sharing…the pictures gave me chills!

September 11 will never be just another day. Just like July 22 will never be just another day for most Norwegian. Felt strange, that here in Barcelona 1 million people were out in the streets celebrating, as September 11 is Catalonia’s “National Day”..
