We visited in mid March and the views of the snow covered hills was magical. It was very quiet in town as there were no cruise ships in port.
The Flamsbana railway trip was excellent, amazingly scenic and well worth the trip from Australia.
We opted to take the bus to Voss rather than the fjord cruise to Gudvangen due to the weather. The VY bus (VY450) arrived on time and was clean and comfortable. The scenery was lovely - lots of snow and small towns we'd love to come back to.

Flåm was the highlight of Norway for my husband and our 20 and 17yo daughters. It was one of the most beautiful places they have ever seen with their own eyes. Now they just want to go back when it is less cold!
If you are doing the Bergensbana don't go through straight through. Visit Flåm!

Pristine, quiet and very pretty town.
Pristine, quiet and very pretty town. We travelled in January, it was very peaceful. The Fjord cruise was fabulous.
We travelled on the Flam train both ways as in winter the cruise between Flam and Bergen does not run. It’s a definite on my list to travel to. We will be back in summer to see the changes. The Flam Marina has great accommodation with amazing views of the Fjord. Very easy to walk around this little village. With a number of cafes/restaurants to eat at. We had dinner at the Flam Marina Restaurant twice as the food was very good and reasonably priced for Norway.

The train ride into Flam was absolutely stunning in early November. Already snow on the ground, but not too cold (around 0 Celsius). Since it was the off-season, the small town wasn't too busy. Highlights included our stay at Freithem Hotel (delicious breakfast buffet), delicious dinner at Aegier micobrewery, baked goods at Flam bakery, and walking along the water front. Everyone we encountered in the town were super friendly and mostly international.

Flam is paradise. The views are amazing.
Flam is paradise. The views are amazing. The waterfalls are spectacular. The little village is quaint. The trip to viewpoint is amazing. The little villages along the way is very pretty. And the fjords so spectacular! Although expensive, it is all worth it and accessible!

Flåm is a true getaway.
Flåm is a true getaway. Spend 2-3 days here to really get to spend time in the Fjords. It can leave you speechless, there’s truly nothing like it. If you’re doing Norway in a Nutshell, do the e-bus trip or the RIB tour in the area, go hike Troll’s Tongue. Soak it all up! There is a good brewery Aegir in Flåm and the food is great. Don’t miss taking the Flamsbana- the most stunning train ride!
We had quite an enjoyable time in Flåm and at this hotel, and we all wished we could've stayed longer! This was a stopover during our norway in a nutshell tour from Oslo to Bergen. The family room is spacious, with an entirely separate sleeping area for the kids. The rooms are still quite small, but my preteen daughter loved being able to shut the door for some privacy. The restaurant onsite with the beer tasting in the afternoon was great and very tasty on both accounts! Service was also really nice. Highly recommend overall!
Quiet location and the local piglets that came to say hello. But little else because the quality of the property is so vastly below the scandalous price being charged (gouging during peak holiday period when there is little to no choice if you have to stay in Flåm). Perhaps that is supply and demand but we found later that day that rooms opened up in the best hotel in town for way less than this simple accommodation.
Beautiful and historic building. Delicious food (breakfast and dinner), helpful staff, and the location is right next to the Flam Railway. We’re so glad we spent the night here during our Norway in a Nutshell trip. My sister and I had a wonderful time. There’s a beautiful atrium with view of mountains and fjords.
Beautiful view of Fjord area and Flåm with included parking and short walk to main town area. Located right on a farm it's a nice rustic change of pace. The rooms are tidy and clean, kitchen and bathroom also very good. When staff are working at the main desk it's very easy to get questions answered.
Buffet dinner was very good with a wide selection of dishes, including various Norwegian specialities and more internationally-orientated options. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel was very conveniently situated for both the Flambana railway and Fjord cruises.
Nice, old and spectacular home with great location to do all things in Flåm area. Small, nice rooms (go for sea view room) and you share facilities with others. Not a 5 star hotel with breakfast and room service, but clean and a very good experience. The view is amazing.
Lovely view! Location was a 20min beautiful walk into the town center at Flam . We found getting on/off at Lunden station very convenient since it’s just a 5 min walk from the property. The property itself was extremely clean with just the right amenities. WiFi was fast.
Nice location on the harbour just a few hundred metres from Flam centre. Dining room had great view where they serve breakfast and dinner.
We were able to wash clothes at the hotel down the road for free. The 3 course dinner menu was delicious both nights we stayed.
The location was spectacular! Our room was nicely decorated. We planned to cook and the kitchen was equipped with the basics. We opted for eating at the Terrace restaurant. Food and service was great. Wish we could stay longer but more of Norway to see!
The view from our room was exceptional - looking straight out over the water and down the fjord.
Outside of the touristy village centre. Lovely walk along the boardwalk to the hotel, about 6 minutes from the station.
Lovely warm room with separate lounge.
Staff very helpful; came to clean room when I said it was dirty. Easy to find along the riverside. Near the shops, only 13 minute straightforward walk. Away from the millions of tourists. Genuine Norway in Flam! Reasonable kitchen and facilities.
The owner is very hospitality. And cabin location is very good with nice view of the river and waterfall. Also it's near to historical church and close to Flam Railway Station. A wonderful place here, particularly free apples as many as you can eat.
Front of hotel faced the water with beautiful views & some seating areas. Staff was interactive, friendly, and half-board included lovely dinners (albeit, rushed) and a simple but adequate breakfast.
So great to find an affordable place in expensive Norway. Clean and obviously cared for by the owners. Good beds, clean cabin, basic cooking facilities.
